Bányai Kornél Literary Stage

created by Orsolya Ring and Balázs Kalmár

After the departure of the teacher, community worker, and director, Hunor Bucz in 1968, the Hajnóczy Literary Stage in Tiszaföldvár was nominally dissolved and – according to the discovered traces – was re-established in the same year under the leadership of András Szabó. The company then took the name Bányai Kornél Literary Stage, and continued to operate under this name until András Szabó’s death in the second half of the 1970s. The group’s work became nationally known, as it participated at the major amateur theatre festivals of the 1970s and won several awards. Apart from staging classical dramas, the group’s repertoire also included the eponymous author’s literary work.
