The Hajnóczy Literary Stage was founded in 1965 under the leadership of Hunor Bucz, teacher and cultural worker, at the Hajnóczy József High School and Agricultural Secondary School in Tiszaföldvár. The members of the ensemble were students of the secondary school. The ensemble was led by Bucz, but was also supported and assisted by other teachers of the school. Their performances were presented in the village’s cultural centre, then they toured the surrounding towns and villages (Szolnok, Mezőhék, Cibakháza, Rákóczifalva, Kisújszállás, Eger, Debrecen), and even Budapest. Bucz was dismissed from Tiszaföldvár after the 1967 performance of A grögős eke (The Roller Plow), following local and then national political outcry. According to the traces that have been found so far, the Literary Stage was re-established in 1968 under the leadership of András Szabó. The stage then took the name of Kornél Bányai. While earlier performances were based on selected literary texts (mainly poems), often edited by Bucz himself, after 1968, the performances were focused more often on single dramas.
