The predecessor of the Manézs Theatre was the Literary Stage of the Gárdonyi Géza House of Culture, which operated under this name between 1964? and 1970. The Manézs held its rehearsals and performances in the Géza Gárdonyi House of Culture in Hejőcsaba, the outskirt of Miskolc. The ensemble was led by Pál Lengyel, and after creating several nationally renowned productions, it ceased to exist in 1975.
