The National Meeting of Workers’ Dramatists was first held in 1973, and the festival was hosted by Tatabánya, where the highly respected Bányász Színpad (Miners’ Stage) had already made a significant contribution to the social recognition and professional prestige of workers’ theatre. It was organised by the National Council of Trade Unions (SZOT), the Institute of Popular Culture and the Trade Union of Mine Workers. Although the event presumably existed in some form until the change of regime, the available sources and relevant information on the events can only be found up to 1981.  Thus, the research focuses on the events of five years (1973, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1981).
